First Night Virginia

First Night began in Boston in 1976 as a way to bring neighboring communities together in celebration, while providing an alternative way of ushering in the New Year. Charlottesville’s First Night Virginia was only second in the nation to begin the tradition of First Night in 1983, and has since served as a model for the more than 130 First Night celebrations worldwide.  Over the years, hundreds of thousands of people have attended this fun-filled celebration of the arts on Charlottesville’s Downtown Mall.  From fire dancers to rock n’ roll, ballet to jugglers, there’s something for everybody!

Fall Fiber Festival at Montpelier

The Fall Fiber Festival is held each October and is a popular regional event. The event showcases every aspect of textile manufacturing, from the production of wool to the finished product. Events include sheep shearing, craft demos, and a host of other activities. The most popular feature of the Fall Fiber Festival is the Sheep Dog Trials.

Heritage Harvest Festival at Monticello

Celebrate the harvest and the legacy of revolutionary gardener Thomas Jefferson at the 6th annual Heritage Harvest Festival at Monticello. Thomas Jefferson, America’s “First foodie,” championed vegetable cuisine, plant experimentation and sustainable agriculture.

Taste a bounty of heirloom fruits and vegetables and learn about organic gardening and seed-saving during this fun, affordable, family-friendly festival — unlike any other — held on the breathtaking West Lawn of Jefferson’s Monticello.

Charlottesville Earth Day Eco Fair

The Eco Fair will be a day of educational workshops and presentations, tablers who represent the best of Charlottesville and the surrounding area, live local music, local food and beverages, a raffle, and even a Children's Corner with fun activities for kids of all ages.
